The Ottoman Empire

Dear Lacy, I just came back from the wonderful country Turkey! It was sooooooooooo fun! I did many great things, such as try the delicious candy Turkish delight. I also learned about the Ottoman Empire. I know this may sound boring, but it is actually quite interesting. So you better not throw this letter away, thinking the Ottoman Empire is boring. Lacy? Lacy? Lacyyyyyyyyy? Well, moving on. The Ottoman Empire lasted from 1299 to 1922. Thats one old country. It is surprising to think about how it expanded through three continents! Thats huge, Lacy! Even Bigger than your fat dog Spike. Moving on (again) the Ottoman Empire expanded through South Eastern Europe, the middle East and North Africa. It went through the strait of Gibraltar, in the West, all the way to the Caspian sea, to the Eastern Persian gulf, from the edge of the country Austria and Slovakia, in Northern Sudan and also the South of Yemen. Without a doubt, the Ottoman Empire was one of the most powerful countries in the World! The people who lived there at the time (the Ottomans) started to see themselves as rulers of a “Universal Empire”. To both Roman and also Islamic traditions. It’s interesting to learn that the Ottoman Empire was the center of interactions in-between Eastern and Western worlds for 600 years. You better not be about to throw this letter away, Lacy. Oh well. The Ottoman Empire was marked as the “golden age” by Suleium the magnificent. Surprisingly, the Ottoman Empire was the only Islamic power of Western Europe in-between the 15th and also the 19th centuries, to actually challenge the escalating power with Istanbul (or Constantinople) as it’s capital. The Empire was in some of the respects that an Islamic success of the earlier Mediterranean Empires. Which was the Roman and Byzantine Empires. Sadly, the Ottoman Empire slowly died out, happening in the 19th century when it met it’s sad days during World War 1.Bye Lacy. Your friend, Liza. www.wikipedia/OttomanEmpire.com
